Shraddha

Annual shraddha date

The shraddha is kept each year on the tithi of the death, not on the calendar date. Enter the day, time and place of death to find it for the coming years.

The death

Type or pick, e.g. 16/09/1995
Please give it if you know it: a death late at night can fix the next tithi. Without it, 12 noon is assumed.

Nothing you enter here is stored, by us or by the calculation service.

How the date is found

  • The death fixes a tithi once: the tithi running at the moment of death, in its lunar month and paksha.
  • Each year the shraddha falls on the day that tithi is present in the aparahna (the afternoon part of the day) at the place it is kept.
  • Kutapa, rauhina and aparahna are the hours almanacs print for the offering; the rite runs from kutapa to the end of aparahna.
